Printer Update Information
At INK MAX, our compatible cartridges are tested and guaranteed to work with supported printers using the current installed printer firmware at the time of purchase.
However, some printer manufacturers release software or firmware updates that may change how the printer recognizes compatible cartridges. In some cases, a cartridge that was working properly before an update may no longer be detected by the printer.
This does not always mean the cartridge is defective. Sometimes the printer software has changed after the cartridge was purchased or installed.
Why Printer Updates Matter
Many newer printers include built-in software that checks the cartridge installed in the machine. A future printer update, whether automatic or manually accepted, may affect the use of compatible cartridges.
This issue is most commonly seen with HP, Epson and Lexmark printers. Brother and other brands may also be affected from time to time, especially on newer models.
Older printers are usually less affected, but this can vary by printer model and firmware version.
Special Note About HP Printers
Some newer HP printers may have additional restrictions. This can include HP+ printers, Instant Ink enrolled printers and some HP printer models ending with the letter āeā.
These printers may reject, block or limit the use of compatible cartridges because of HP+ activation, Instant Ink enrolment, firmware restrictions or built-in cartridge detection software.
Before ordering HP compatible cartridges, please check whether your printer is enrolled in HP+, Instant Ink or any other subscription-based printing program.
How to Help Avoid Cartridge Recognition Issues
To reduce the risk of future cartridge problems, we strongly recommend turning off automatic printer updates.
After installing compatible cartridges, please avoid manually accepting printer firmware updates from the printer screen, computer software or mobile app.
If your printer asks for permission to update, cancel or decline the update whenever possible.

Warranty and Return Information
Our compatible cartridges are guaranteed to work with the current installed printer firmware at the time of purchase.
Cartridges that are rejected because of a future printer update, automatic update, manually accepted update, HP+ restriction, Instant Ink lock or other subscription-based printer program after purchase may not be eligible for refund or replacement.
This is because the cartridge itself may still be working properly, but the printer software may have changed or restricted the use of compatible cartridges.
