Instructions After Refill

After refilling, some Canon cartridges may still show low-ink or empty-ink warnings because the original electronic chip does not reset. Follow the instructions for your cartridge family below.

Canon 243, 244, 245, 246, 275 and 276

Possible printer messages:

  • PIXMA TS models: E13 or E16
  • PIXMA MG, TR and other models: Check Ink – BLK or Check Ink – CLR

When the triangle Alarm light turns on:

  1. Press and hold the printer’s Stop button for approximately 5–6 seconds.
  2. Release the button when the Alarm light turns off.
  3. Repeat for the other cartridge if required.

The ink-status light may continue flashing. This is normal after ink-level monitoring is disabled.

The printer may no longer warn you when the cartridge becomes empty. Refill it again when printing begins to fade.

Canon 250/251 and 270/271

Continue printing until the printer displays:

“The ink has run out. Replace the ink tank.”

Press and hold the Stop/Resume button—the button marked with a triangle inside a circle—until the warning light turns off.

You may need to repeat the procedure. If the cartridge is removed and reinstalled, the override may need to be performed again.

Canon 280/281

For Support Code 1600, press OK to continue.

For Support Code 1689, press and hold the Stop button for approximately 4 seconds.

The cartridge may then continue printing with ink-level monitoring disabled. If it is removed and reinstalled, the procedure may need to be repeated.

Important

  • Print regularly to help prevent the ink from drying out.
  • Refill the cartridge when printing begins to fade.
  • Do not continue printing once the cartridge is completely empty.
